Charlie Perez is a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)-prepared Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) based in San Diego, California. She currently serves in multiple clinical roles, providing psychiatric care as an outpatient provider and medical consult.
Dr. Perez’s healthcare career spans more than 15 years and reflects a diverse background across the continuum of care. Prior to specializing in psychiatry, she worked in emergency medicine, critical care, trauma, and neurocritical care settings, beginning her career as an Emergency Medical Technician and progressing through roles in the Emergency Department, Intensive Care Unit, trauma services, and international medical transport. She continues to serve as Chief Flight Nurse with Aeromedevac, combining her expertise in critical care and aviation medicine.
Academically, Dr. Perez holds degrees in Sports Medicine, Psychology, Nursing, and Advanced Practice Psychiatry, culminating in her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Frontier Nursing University. Her doctoral work focused on quality improvement initiatives designed to enhance patient-centered psychiatric care and improve access to mental health services.
Throughout her career, Dr. Perez has earned numerous professional certifications and distinctions, including certification as a Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and Master Clinical Hypnotherapist. Her leadership and commitment to service have been recognized through honors such as the Scripps 100 Leadership Award and the Frontier Nursing University Leadership and Service Award. She also proudly served with FEMA during Hurricane Ida relief efforts and remains actively involved in professional organizations, including the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) and Neuroscience Education Institute (NEI).
Dr. Perez is passionate about advancing mental health care through compassionate, evidence-based practice, leadership development, and systems improvement. Outside of healthcare, she enjoys strength training, lifelong learning, and spending time with her husband, son, and the lively assortment of animals that make up ‘Casita de Perez’. She credits her family—human, furry, and reptilian—for keeping her grounded, inspired, and continually reminded of the importance of balance, resilience, and joy.
